Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes in surface area and volume.
Lake Superior could contain all the other Great Lakes plus three more lakes the size of Lake Erie. The deepest spot, 1,332 feet, is 40 miles off Munising, Michigan. Lake Superior contains three quadrillion (3,000,000,000,000,000) gallons of water. That's ten percent of the world's fresh surface water and over half of the water in the Great Lakes. Lake Superior contains enough water to submerge all of North and South America under one foot of water. Lake Superior is the cleanest, clearest, and coldest of the Great Lakes.
